It seems like the odds are not in Gary's favor. In this case he has decided that he will not be directing the second installment of 'The Hunger Games' trilogy. Ross released a statement to Lionsgate explaining his departure, stating he does not have the time he needs to write and prep for the movie.
Lionsgate then released a statement wishing Ross the best in hopes the studio will have the chance to work with him again.
Although one can understand it is an extremely tight deadline for any director to meet. We can only hope who ever steps up to the plate can deliver the movie with the same creative vision Gary has left us with. In 'Hunger Games' style... Lionsgate, let the Director Reaping begin and may the odds be ever in your favor.

This does not make me happy... at all. Now it feels like my favorite book in the series is going to be rushed. :(

    OH FireCatcher! You crazy kid!

And Bri! I totally agree... I cannot help but feel scared that something is going to go very wrong with this change. I don't want it to happen, but what if it does. And also, I love your quote in the article about a "director reaping". Ingenious!

It all boils down to who they are going to replace Gary with??? If it someone good and can carry the theme of the first movie through the second one, then I will be okay. But the shooting schedule is what really bothers me.

If it were me, I would push the release date to March 2014 and get Gary Ross on board to give him the extra time he needs... (only a 4 month delay)
